Assignment 1 - Presentation

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

We have to form our group which consists of four members and do presentation slides for this presentation. The topic given to us is Area and Volume. We are required to produce presentation slides and present the information we have gathered in class. We have chosen the topic of pyramid and pyramidal frustum.

REFLECTION

As this is a presentation assignment, I have learnt how to communicate appropriately in various settings and modes. 

Upon completing this assignment, i understand more about team dynamics that cooperation and communication is very important as this is a group work.

Assignment 2 - Statistic Survey Report

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

First of all, in this assignment we are divided into groups. My group consists of four members. We are required to choose one type of disease and do research about the disease we have chosen and then prepare 200 survey questionnaire forms to do a survey. The topic we have chosen is Parkinson's Disease. Then, produce an A2 infographic board and also a statistic report by using the survey questionnaire.

REFLECTION

I have improved my communication skills throughout this assignment. For example, we need to do a survey by giving out the survey forms to 200 people. We faced challenges when carrying out this survey as we need to communicate with strangers by explaining the purpose of this survey to them in order for them to complete the survey forms.

As this is a group assignment, my interpersonal skills had also improved. I understand that communication between group members is very important throughout this assignment.

In this assignment,  we are able to think more critically and creatively when creating the infographic in order to make it look more interesting. Moreover, we need to analyse problems and then find solutions for it.

ASSIGNMENT 1 - ESSAY

Compare / Contrast Essay

Brief Description

This is the first assignment for this subject which is compare or contrast essay. The task given to us is to provide a 600 – 1000 words essay consisting of 6 paragraph based on any two movies of the same genre. We first need to decide on the movie genre and look through materials published on this genre to gain a better understanding of the chosen genre. There are only two options of film which are James Bond and horror films. After choosing one of them, we have to start viewing two movies of the chosen genre to understand the story-line and then either do a comparison of similarities or a contrast of differences. Finally, we need to do pre-writing to make sure we are on the right track and after that start working on the final work through what we have understand from the story-line.

I have chosen horror as my genre of movie for this assignment. These are the movies of the similar genres which are The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2007) and Halloween (2003).

                             





I have decided to compare the similarities of both movies. This is the final essay of comparing Texas Chainsaw and Halloween.

Reflection

DESCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
When doing this assignment, i have learned to fulfill the requirement of brief. To complete the essay, i had understand about the concept of film genre and story-line of both the films. This shows that i have demonstrated the ability to compare analyse, and synthesize information from two films in an essay clearly.

LIFELONG LEARNING
As this assignment is an individual work, i learnt independently by watching both the movies and searched for more information through online to provide accurate information of both films. Besides, i am able to utilize the information collected effectively and construct them into an essay.

 THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING
I have also improved my writing skills as well as thinking skills by thinking creatively so that my essay is more interesting. Moreover, to solve my weakness in vocabulary, I used few ways to overcome it by searching online dictionaries and also by asking my friends which are good in English.

In conclusion, I have realized my strengths and weakness throughout this first assignment. For example, I am able to plan and manage time when accomplishing this task complying with a due date to submit this assignment on time. However, I have a weak vocabulary base while doing this essay. I often checked through online dictionaries or asked for my friends’ assistance to make sure that I can use suitable and bombastic words in order to make the essay interesting. Therefore, to solve this weakness, I will have to read more novels and published materials to improve my vocabulary. After completing this assignment, I find that I have improved my writing skills and understand more about film genres.

ASSIGNMENT 2 - RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT & VERBAL PRESENTATION

Comparative Analysis of 2 Businesses of Similar Industry in Different Geographical Locations

Brief Description

Basically, this second assignment will focus on comparative research by interviewing two businesses. In this assignment, we have to form a group of 5-6 members and select 2 businesses of the same industry in different geographical locations for comparison purpose. First, we had our discussion on which industry of business to choose for our research and then contact both shop owners to make appointment ahead of the interview. We came up with a conclusion to choose a more interesting industry which is wedding industry in the SS/2 area. Besides, we are required to prepare suitable questions for our interview. Moreover, we are also required to compile those information in a report of 2500 – 3000 words based on our chosen industry after the interview and research is done. Lastly, we need to present using all gathered information on our business we chose in a verbal presentation clearly and appropriately.

 DESCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

To complete this assignment, I have learnt to find information and do some research through internet to meet the requirements of the brief so that it proves that I understand the situation in the context of the field of study and also compile the information collected from visiting and interviewing the shops into a report in an organized manner.

LIFELONG LEARNING

In this assignment, i tried to complete the comparative analysis of two businesses using the information we have gathered throughout the research. I learnt to locate, extract, synthesize and utiliize information effectively and compile them into a report logically and appropriately.

COMMUNICATION SKILL

This assignment also involves verbal presentation to show our findings using presentation slides. Therefore, I have improved my communication skills by communicating appropriately in various settings and modes throughout this assignment. I learn to communicate the relevant ideas and analysis in clear and logical academic English and present the information clearly to the audience.

In a nutshell, after completing this research assignment, I have identified my weaknesses in doing the comparative analysis essay in the report as I was lack of ideas to elaborate the report and have asked for ideas from my group members and also friends. I am also weak in presenting the information gathered during verbal presentation due to nervousness. Besides, i am able to utilize the information after the research and interview are done and compile them into a report. I hope that I can improve my presenting and speaking skills in the future by doing more preparations and practice before actual oral presentation.
